Restoring parquet flooring requires a controlled, step-by-step approach to protect the pattern and keep the surface level.
Assessment & Preparation
We begin by checking the condition of the parquet blocks, the stability of the floor and any signs of movement or previous poor repairs. If loose or damaged blocks are found, repairs are discussed before sanding begins.
Optional Parquet Repairs
Where needed, individual parquet blocks are carefully lifted, cleaned, and re-fixed. Missing or damaged blocks can be replaced and stitched back into the pattern so the floor is stable before sanding starts.
Where suitable, we fill fine gaps during sanding using a resin mixed with dust from your own floor for a closer colour match. For targeted areas or floors with expected movement, flexible fillers may be recommended instead. Gap filling is optional and assessed case by case, as parquet floors still need to move naturally.
Sanding Parquet Flooring
The floor is sanded in stages using specialist, dust-controlled machinery. Coarser abrasives remove old finishes and surface wear, followed by finer sanding to refine the timber and protect edges and detail within the pattern.
Optional Re-Staining
If a colour change is planned, stain samples are tested directly on the floor. Once agreed, the stain is applied evenly across the parquet to achieve the chosen tone while allowing for natural variation between blocks.
Finishing & Protection
The final stage is sealing the floor with Bona lacquers or Osmo oils, selected based on appearance, durability and how the space is used. Multiple coats are applied to protect the parquet and keep the pattern looking sharp over time.

Most real wood parquet floors can be sanded, provided there is enough timber thickness left. Some engineered parquet floors can also be sanded, depending on the depth of the wear layer. We assess this before any sanding work begins.
Any loose or unstable wood blocks must be re-fixed first as part of the parquet flooring restoration. Sanding a parquet floor that has movement can lead to uneven results and further damage if stability is not addressed beforehand.
Once the floor is sanded back to bare timber, parquet flooring can be re-stained. We apply test samples directly on the floor to agree on the tone before proceeding, as blocks can absorb colour differently.
Buff and polish floor maintenance works well on parquet floors that are structurally sound and still have an intact finish. It refreshes protection and evens the sheen, but it will not remove deep scratches or change colour.
We aim to blend wood floor repairs as closely as possible. Wherever possible, we use reclaimed parquet blocks that match the size, grain, and age of your existing floor. If reclaimed wood is not available, new blocks are carefully selected and prepared to match the surrounding parquet as closely as possible.
Once sanded and finished together, repairs usually sit well within the overall pattern. Some variation in colour or grain can still occur, as older and newer wood absorbs stain and finish differently, which is a natural limitation with parquet flooring.
