Project Update – Floorboard Restoration in Hastings

Last week we completed a challenging but rewarding project in Hastings. The client had recently bought the property and discovered original pine floorboards hidden under old carpet and vinyl. Curious about restoring them, they called us in for advice.

We found loose and damaged boards throughout and one room had two completely different types mixed together. Full replacement with reclaimed boards would’ve been costly, so the client had a smart idea: reuse floorboards from an upstairs bedroom that was going to be carpeted anyway.

We carefully removed those boards and began replacing the damaged ones downstairs. Halfway through, we also found several broken or cut joists, left behind by previous trades, so we secured everything properly before continuing.

Once repairs were complete, we carried out our full sanding process. These boards had been neglected for years, so it took a deep clean and plenty of care to bring them back to life. After sanding and buffing, we sealed the floor with three coats of Bona Mega lacquer, giving it a natural finish and durable protection for years to come.

The transformation was brilliant, a unique blend of preservation and practical thinking, with real character restored to the home. The client was over the moon, and we were proud to be part of the journey!
