Project Spotlight – Floor Restoration in Canterbury

We recently completed a rewarding project in Canterbury, which definitely required patience, planning, and problem-solving.

We first met the client a few months ago, but due to an ongoing leak from the bathroom, we had to postpone the work while they coordinated repairs with other tradesmen. The leak had caused damage to both the floorboards and the joists underneath, so we stayed in touch and made a few extra site visits to ensure everything was assessed correctly.

Once the structural issues were resolved, we were able to move forward. The job included a fireplace re-stitch, where we removed old concrete infills around fireplaces and patched them with reclaimed boards to restore the original layout in three separate rooms.

We also lifted several additional boards to inspect the joists below using our endoscope camera, ensuring everything was dry, sound, and secure before continuing.

The floorboards had been covered with carpet for decades and had never been properly sealed, so they were holding onto years of grime and wear. But we’re always up for a challenge — and after careful sanding, buffing, and detailing, we brought them back to life.

To finish, we applied three coats of Bona Mega clear varnish for a durable, natural look that will last for years.
