Gap filling is a key part of floor restoration, but it’s not as simple as just sealing cracks. The method you choose can make all the difference in how your floor performs over time.
At Floor Sanding Enterprise, we use several professional techniques, each chosen based on the floor type, condition, and the expected natural movement of the timber.
🔹 Resin and Dust Fillers
This method combines the fine sanding dust from your actual floor with a flexible resin to create a smooth, nearly invisible fill. It works well for narrow gaps on stable floors. However, it may crack over time if the boards move too much due to seasonal expansion and contraction.
🔹 Pine Slivers (Wood Strips)
Best for older floors with larger gaps. Thin strips of reclaimed pine are fitted into the joints, creating a solid and long-lasting filler. This method copes better with natural movement and helps keep out draughts and dust.
🔹 Bona Gap Master Filler
This is a flexible, silicone-free interior sealer ideal for filling gaps between floorboards, walls, and skirting boards. It’s a relatively new method — effective, clean, and durable — but less common due to its higher cost and more limited use in traditional restoration.
💬 The bottom line? Every floor is different, and gap filling is both a visual and structural decision. We always advise clients based on the specific movement and condition of their wood floor.
